Wescom's history of partnering with nonprofits who share in our mission of building better lives spans decades. However, recent national events have shone a light on the injustice that still exists in communities of color. Remaining neutral is not enough. The challenge in front of us is real. It will require consistent action and strong partnerships to solve.
In an effort to support meaningful change, while continuing our longstanding tradition of giving back to the valued communities we serve, Wescom Credit Union will be making grants through the Wescom Foundation to four local organizations that are working to create a more just and racially equitable society:
A Community of Friends (ACOF) — an organization whose mission is to end homelessness by providing supportive housing for people with mental illness. ACOF recognizes that a disproportionate number of people of color are homeless and is committed to achieving an equitable and just society.
Social Justice Learning Institute (SJLI) — dedicated to improving the education, health, and well-being of youth and communities of color by empowering them to enact social change through research, training, and community mobilization.
Chrysalis — a nonprofit organization committed to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment.
Pasadena NAACP #1054 — seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice through litigation, advocacy, and public education. The organization will develop and promote a local business directory to spur workforce development and wealth creation that aligns with the NAACP's efforts to support African-American owned local businesses in Pasadena.
Wescom will continue to look for opportunities to serve the needs of our communities and solidify our commitment to foster a culture of respect, diversity, inclusion, and equity. Bringing meaningful change to the areas of which we work and live furthers our purpose of building better lives and better communities for all Southern Californians.
