For the third consecutive year, Wescom welcomed UCLA undergraduates for a paid summer internship program. This is part of our ongoing commitment to helping build better lives for our UCLA community, beyond offering financial education and financing options.
Since the program’s inception in 2018, 14 Bruin students have had the opportunity to work directly with Wescom team members and learn the day-to-day operations of the Credit Union.
Here’s what our six 2020 UCLA interns had to say:
“Wescom has so much to offer and I want to be able to create content or provide ideas that will allow for UCLA students to access the financial resources they need to succeed in life.”
—Alexis Wells, UCLA Branch Intern
“Wescom has done a great job emphasizing financial literacy for its members, which is especially important for college students like myself who have or will take out loans for education. I also wanted to get some tangible legal experience before embarking on my journey to law school and Wescom seemed like the perfect place to do it because everyone was extremely kind and welcoming.”
—Filza Vaid, Legal Intern
“I wanted to work for Wescom because I wanted to gain necessary experience for my future career as a consultant and I believe that interning at Wescom with the Human Resources Department is the best place to do it.”
—Leigha Onwu, Human Resources Intern
“In general, I believe that all organizations have a social responsibility to their communities – the decisions they make impact their employees, customers, and in this digital age, all of the people they reach online and through social media. I was especially drawn to how Wescom has historically emphasized the importance of social responsibility.”
—Hannah Lee, Marketing Intern
“I love that Wescom has a large member focus and history of giving back to its communities. It really shows that they take the public into account when making decisions and are intentional with keeping their members happy, which is a crucial factor to have within an organization.”
—Jennifer Be, Internal Audit Intern
“Through this internship, I was impressed by how much Wescom cares about their members and the communities they come from, including UCLA. The culture of giving back at Wescom definitely makes them stand out as a financial institution.”
—Ricci Cofinco, Partner Development (Wescom Foundation) Intern
