Wescom Observes Juneteenth as Credit Union Holiday

An Important Message from our President and CEO, Darren Williams

June 18, 2021

At Wescom, our culture values inclusivity and celebrates our differences because each individual’s unique talents and experiences contribute to our purpose of building better lives for all. This also means we need to be active participants in doing things to make our communities better. So, starting in 2021, Wescom will add Juneteenth (June 19) as an additional Wescom observed holiday and the Credit Union will be closed.

Although this day marks the celebration to the end of slavery, more than 150 years later we are still plagued with our country’s difficult history of racial inequality and injustice that continues to persist through systemic racism. This is why it is essential for Wescom to recognize the significance and importance of Juneteenth by providing team members, members, and our communities with an opportunity to reflect, learn, and join in the name of freedom, justice, and the power of community. And remember, if you choose to take this time to take action against social injustice and be an active participant in creating positive change in your communities, please do so safely.
