5 Ways to Make Safe Payments with Zelle® | Wescom Credit Union

Digital payments are on the rise and Wescom has partnered with Zelle so you can quickly and easily send money to people you know using Zelle in the Wescom Mobile Banking App. Sending money with Zelle is similar to a cash transaction, so you want to make sure you’re only using it to pay friends, family, and people you trust.

Here are five ways to help protect yourself and your money when using Zelle.

  1. Only send money to those you know and trust. Once your money is sent, it can’t be cancelled if the recipient is already enrolled in Zelle, making it harder to get your money back.
  2. Look out for payment scams. For example, if someone is trying to sell you something at a discounted price and insists that you pay with Zelle – it may be a scam. Use your best judgement and only send money to people you know.
  3. Double check contact info. Always make sure you’re using the correct U.S. mobile number or email address for the person you want to send money to.
  4. Sign up for Wescom Account Alerts. We’ll send you real-time text and email notifications every time activity is made on your account. Plus, Wescom has monitoring features in place to make sure your payments are secure.
  5. Beware of fraudulent emails and calls. Wescom will never call you to request your confidential account information. Additionally, sensitive account details are not shared when you send and receive money with Zelle. The only information that’s used to send or receive money is an email address or U.S. mobile number. So don’t provide your information to anyone over the phone or in an email – even if the caller or sender says they’re from Wescom, Zelle, or another financial institution. If you think unauthorized access or suspicious activity has occurred in connection with your Wescom accounts, report such incidents to your closest Wescom branch or call the Member Service Center at 1-888-4WESCOM (1-888-493-7266).
