5 Back-to-School Saving Tips
How to Cut Costs on School Supplies
According to the National
Retail Federation (NRF), families with children in elementary through high school plan to spend an
average of $890.07 on back-to-school items this year, approximately $25 more than last year’s record of
$864.35 and a new high.
That’s a hefty amount of money – so Wescom found ways to help reduce those costs with five back-to-school
savings tips.
- Shop your home, first. Check what school supplies you already have around your house before hitting the
store for new supplies.
- Stick to your list. The options for new school supplies are endless at the store. Resist the urge to
splurge and only get what’s on your list. Turn it into a fun scavenger hunt with your kids!
- Shop secondhand. There’s nothing wrong with getting supplies at a big-box store, but try thrift stores,
secondhand stores, or even garage sales for everything from supplies and backpacks to clothing.
- Search for coupons. Find coupons in the paper or via apps to save online and in-store.
- Buy in bulk. Team up with another parent and split the cost by buying in bulk at a warehouse store.
